Ultrasound

Ultrasound accelerates cellular processes and stimulates healing of tissue at a cellular level to decrease inflammation, reduce swelling, and improve blood flow and this can help to decrease pain. Ultrasound waves can also help to break up scar tissue and adhesions and improve circulation to soft tissues and muscles.

Exercise Therapy

Adding exercise and evidence-based strengthening protocols to a balanced program including muscle length, strength, timing and coordination will restore optimal function. Strengthening the muscles of the inner core (the transverse abdominus, the multifidus, the pelvic floor and the diaphragm) give you the foundation to build on.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses fine, solid, stainless steel needles along ‘meridians’ or ‘channels’ that have a lower resistance to electricity than the neighbouring tissue. These pathways of energy were mapped by the ancient Chinese centuries ago.

A Professor at McGill University, R.Melzach, published research in 1977 indicating that there was a 71% association between acupuncture points that treat for pain and muscle and fascia trigger points. Acupuncture is known for its success in treating pain and promoting healing. Contemporary functional MRI research has revealed a change in brain response when “Qi” is sensed during acupuncture needling. “Qi” is the feeling of heaviness or dull ache as the energy flows throughout the body.

Muscle Re-Education & Rehabilitation

After injury or surgery, muscle regeneration is imperative to movement and function. Neuromuscular Electrotherapy Stimulation (NMES) can help rebuild muscle, which helps control pain. Muscle stimulation therapy can begin the day after surgery/injury, or weeks later depending on your goals, to get you moving again.

Faster Recovery
To regain function faster NMES activates the nerve that corresponds to a targeted muscle and causes it to contract. This prevents muscle loss, and by activating the specific muscles helps to regain muscle mass and power.

A woman’s body undergoes tremendous hormonal and physical change during pregnancy. Hormones that increase laxity (stretchiness) in joint ligaments are released in the first trimester and continue to be released throughout pregnancy. These changes decrease joint closure and increase looseness in the ligaments – many women notice this in the pelvis. We strive to help women regain symmetry in the pelvis, to decrease pain.

Pre- and Post-Surgical Care

Surgical recovery is more efficient when the body is in a better physical condition pre-operatively; this is also true for abdominal or pelvic procedures, including C-sections.

Post-operative physiotherapy can provide extensive gains towards scar, muscle, and fascial healing as well as muscle strengthening. Reducing scar adhesions, and facilitating proper muscle firing with our latest technology will help you return to pre-operative function, or better!

Getting you back to your lifestyle is what your physiotherapist wants to help you achieve.
